Father Michael Abang Obi Narrowly Avoids Death

Father Michael Abang Obi, a Catholic priest in Cross River State, narrowly escaped death after his car exploded in Ogoja Local Government Area on New Year’s Eve. Father Obi, who is the Administrator of St. Joseph de Worker Parish in Bansara and Vicar for Priests in the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja, recounted the harrowing incident.

Father Michael Abang Obi said he had just returned from officiating a wedding at a neighbouring parish when he encountered a Reverend Sister and her group gathering firewood on the parish premises. He stopped his car to give them directions on where to find better firewood. Moments after getting back into his car and preparing to drive off, there was an explosion. Fortunately, the car door was open at the time, allowing him to escape unharmed.

Father Obi expressed his gratitude for surviving the incident, saying, “I am safe, thanks be to God.” The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. Parishioners and locals have raised concerns following the incident, but no injuries were reported.

The incident has left the community in shock, but they are thankful for Father Obi’s safety and are offering prayers of gratitude for his survival.
