Pastor Ugochukwu Uchegbu Provides Meals for 800 Inmates In Umuahia
Pastor Ugochukwu Uchegbu of Winners’ Chapel, Umuahia, has made headlines by feeding over 800 inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Umuahia, Abia State. This remarkable gesture took place during the Christmas celebration, bringing joy and hope to those behind bars.
The initiative was part of a larger effort by the Project Dorcas Foundation, which provided meals and paid fines ranging from N30,000 to N200,000 for four convicts. These individuals, Kalu Peter, Joseph Sunday, Ikechukwu Isaiah, and Nzeako Ikwulene, were recognized for their good conduct and given a chance to start anew.
During the event, Pastor Ugochukwu Uchegbu delivered a message of salvation, urging the inmates to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. He emphasized that their time in incarceration should be seen as an opportunity for spiritual renewal and personal transformation. “Though some of you may be here for offences you did not commit or due to unfortunate circumstances, use this period to change your way of life,” he encouraged.
The day was filled with various activities aimed at uplifting the spirits of the inmates. Uche Uwalaka of Compassion Connectors Nigeria organized a football match, fostering a sense of camaraderie and belonging among the inmates. “We want you to enjoy the season as others are enjoying it. It is not yet over for you,” Uwalaka assured them.
Adding to the day’s inspiration, two Nigerian athletes who won gold and silver medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Onyi Gift Mark and Ogechika Nwogu, shared their stories of perseverance and triumph. They encouraged the inmates not to be defined by their current situation but to envision a brighter future.
The deputy controller of the custodial centre, Orjiakor Mabia, expressed his gratitude to the foundation and all those involved in the initiative. He called on other organizations to emulate such acts of kindness and support for the inmates.
This event has not only provided physical nourishment but also spiritual and emotional upliftment, reminding the inmates that they are not forgotten and that there is always hope for a better tomorrow.
