Pope Francis Cautions Against ‘Inventing God’ in 2025

On January 1, 2025, during the Mass for the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, Pope Francis delivered a powerful message at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. He warned Christians against the temptation of “imagining or inventing a God in the abstract,” a notion he described as misleading and associated with vague religious feelings or fleeting emotions.

Pope Francis emphasized that God is not an abstract concept but a tangible presence with a face and a name. He reminded the faithful that Jesus Christ, born of the Virgin Mary, took on human flesh and blood, making Him relatable and accessible to humanity. The Pope’s homily focused on the importance of recognizing the humanity of Christ and the significance of His birth, urging believers to foster a personal relationship with Him.

The Pope’s message also highlighted the role of Mary in guiding the faithful to Jesus and underscored the importance of the World Day of Peace, which coincides with the beginning of the Jubilee year. Pope Francis called on Christians to lift their eyes and hearts to Mary, who points them to her Son and brings them back to the essence of their faith.

This address serves as a reminder of the Pope’s ongoing efforts to deepen the spiritual understanding of the faithful and to encourage a more profound connection with the divine.
